It's been a while since I read an introspective romance, and this one served its purpose. It's called Book Lovers by Emily Henry. The prose is unique, effortless, modern, and refreshing. This author is remarkably skilled at crafting nuanced protagonists with stunning romantic chemistry. I liked the small-town scenery and ordinary life alongside everyday, still irresistible, turbulence in New York City. I loved how complex and beautifully detailed this story is, filled with sweetness and healthy sarcasm—a must-read for rom-com lovers.
If you are a fan of audiobooks (I'm sometimes), this novel is narrated by Julia Whelan, an actor, writer, and narrator of over 400 audiobooks, and one of my favorites.
"Maybe love shouldn't be built on a foundation of compromises, but it can't exist without them. Not the kind that forces two people into shapes they don't fit in, but the kind that loosens their grips and always leaves room to grow. Compromises that"say, there will be a you-shaped space in my heart; if your shape changes, I will adapt. No matter where we go, our love will stretch out to hold us, making me feel…like everything will be okay."
― Emily Henry, Book Lovers

"So many books, so little time." How can we be selective about what we read or listen to? Maybe these lists would help:
- The New Yorker has this year's, as they say, most captivating, notable, brilliant, surprising, absorbing, weird, thought-provoking, and talked-about reads.
- Browse the best books of 2022 according to Barnes & Noble.
Note: The New Yorker is out every Wednesday with new fiction and nonfiction recommendations.
Another note: Emily Henry's next book, Happy Place, is scheduled for release in April 2023.
Happy reading!
